Dulverton to Brushford - Approx 5 miles
The Route: Start the route at the junction between Chapel Street and Bridge Street.
To start turn down Chapel Street which turns off Dulverton’s main street called Bridge Street.
Continue along the tarmac lane leaving Dulverton. The lane shortly becomes a track and then reaches a small kissing
gate to enter a field. Follow the path marked with yellow way marks keeping to the right towards the river where you
will see the salmon trap, a series of weirs built into the river in the 1960s to preserve salmon stocks.
Continue along the river bank through the next two fields eventually reaching a small track by the new bridge. Cross
the track and follow the path to Brushford keeping to the left hand fence then a line of telegraph poles until you reach a small lane.
Turn right and walk up the lane passing a polo ground and the Carnarvon Arms.
When you reach the main road turn left and cross over taking the road adjacent to the garage almost immediately
opposite you into the village. Continue through Brushford passing the village hall and over a cross roads. Head down
the hill keeping a careful eye out for a small path to your left sign posted Dulverton as it’s easy to miss. Follow
the path through a kissing gate and up onto an old railway line. Turn right and follow the path for about half a mile, then turn right over a style and cross a small field on to a lane and turn left.
Carry along the lane for about 800 yards to a small dip in the road where you turn right onto a footpath signposted
Dulverton. Climb up the hill through some woods and follow the path eventually reaching Ashill Farm. Cut across the
outer farmyard and follow the yellow way markers around the back of the farm. The route runs up and through a newly
planted wood then to a gate at the top of another field where you follow the path down along the hedge to the bottom
left hand corner.
Keeping in the same field the footpath sign posted by the yellow marks turns right following the bottom hedge row
along to a gate leading to Combe Farm cottages. Follow the yellow way markers to the left of the cottages and walk
diagonally across the pasture field towards the oak tree and eventually onto the farm track via a field gate. Turn
left and follow the track to the top where you turn right through a gate and into a field.
Walk diagonally across the field to the bottom left hand corner where you pick up a path which descends through
woods to a lane. Follow the lane down to the main road admiring the views over Dulverton to your left. On reaching
the main road cross diagonally to a small path opposite which leads back to Dulverton along the banks of the river
Barle.
