Porlock Beach

Porlock Weir

Footpath through Worthy Woods

Porlock Weir and Bossington - Approx 6 Miles

The Route: Start the walk from Porlock High Street and walk in the direction of Minehead. Continue for about a quarter of a mile before turning left into Villes Lane. At the bottom of the lane where it meets Bay Road take a right hand path sign-posted to Bossington.

Do not cross the style but continue around to your right following the path. Go through the next gate in front of you and continue along the hedgerow towards Bossington following the coast path, finally reaching a T junction.

At the track, turn left and continue on towards the beach, but itís well worth a short detour to the right into Bossington, a seventeenth century National Trust village with tea shop and attractions.

Continue back to where you detoured and follow the route sign-posted towards the beach. Turn left when you reach the beach. You can either walk along the shingle ridge or follow the path just behind the sea wall passing around some old buildings.

Just before you reach a field gate on the path, or the second break water if you are walking on the shingle, turn left and head inland. Follow the well worn path towards a small wooden bridge to join the coast path. Here turn right by a notice board.

Follow the path through several gates and across a small stream finally bending right around a field and heading back towards the sea. Ignore the path to West Porlock to your left and follow straight on towards Porlock Weir. The path leads you back to the beach. Walk along the shingle for a short distance heading for some steps onto a small road.

Here you can detour to your right and visit Porlock Weir offering, craft shops, cafes and a pub.

The walk turns left here and follows the road up the hill for a short distance before turning right by a seat and heading up into some woods. Cross a small track and bear left alongside a large shed. Fork left to cross a small stream via a wooden bridge and continue up into the woods towards Porlock.

The path divides after a while, here follow the lower path sign-posted to Porlock. Continue on passing through a barrier, ignoring the path to your left leading down to West Porlock, taking you through the woods eventually leading you onto the old toll road. Turn left here and follow the road back to Porlock.
